Wastewater Treatment Plants
and Systems
Robert H. Anderson & Associates, Inc. is one of the
most experienced Wastewater firms in Northern Illinois.
We specialize in meeting the needs of small to medium
sized municipalities. Our environmental engineering staff
recognizes the budgetary constraints under which these
municipalities must operate. We also understand the need
for reliable, durable systems that are operator friendly
and low maintenance.
Robert H. Anderson & Associates, Inc. has been recognized
repeatedly for innovative, yet practical engineering solutions.
For example in 1972 for the Village of Somonauk, Robert
H. Anderson & Associates, Inc. performed the design
and construction engineering for the first oxidation ditch
treatment facility constructed in Illinois. Robert H.
Anderson & Associates, Inc. was also the principal
engineer for the St. Charles Egg-Shaped Digester Project,
which was the third set of egg-shaped anaerobic digesters
to be constructed in the United States.
The RHA&A team prides itself on the ability to see
beyond the traditional, older solutions and select the
best alternative. This is accomplished by fully researching
the alternatives and being open to evaluating new technologies
as they become available. New technology is not the answer
to every problem, but the options should be reviewed for
their potential advantages and disadvantages prior to
selection of a solution.
RHA&A provides a full range a wastewater engineering
services including studies, design and construction related
services. Projects include facilities planning updates,
infiltration and inflow studies, conveyance, collection
system and treatment facility design and construction
related services.

Water Systems
Robert H. Anderson & Associates, Inc. has been providing
consulting services to local municipalities for forty
years and from its beginning RHA&A has been a leader
in developing public water supply, treatment and distribution
systems. Bud Anderson, the founder of RHA&A, was the
first to propose drilling and developing shallow sand
and gravel wells in the St. Charles Aquifer.
RHA&A is committed to supporting local and national
organizations which are focused on the water supply industry.
RHA&A is an active participant in the Kane County
Water Association, a division of the American Water Works
Association. RHA&A is one of the few engineering firms
which has made its expertise available to this organization
and has proved to be an invaluable resource. In return,
we gain insight into legislative activities and the effects
of those activities on our clients.
Throughout our history RHA&A engineers have used
innovation to seek better and more economical solutions
to our clients' needs. Our success is a result of our
commitment to staying abreast of current treatment technology,
being active within public water organizations and providing
our clients with outstanding service.

Flood Studies, Storm
Water Management & Storm Water System Design
RHA&A has been involved in many projects during its 45
year history in which particular attention to urban surface
water management was required to allow development and
nature to co-exist without disastrous consequences. RHA&A
has performed drainage studies for neighboring municipalities,
performed floodway/floodplain mapping for state and federal
regulatory agencies, coordinated state and federal drainage
permitting processes, and developed realistic yet creative
storm water management plans for residential development
projects, as well as commercial and industrial developments.
These projects have varied in size from a few acres to
more than a square mile.
Computer modeling software makes it possible for the
engineer to provide quantitative answers to questions
about the complex nature of storm water runoff and flooding.
There are a multitude of computer software programs available
to plan, evaluate, and design solutions for most storm
water drainage problems. RHA&A uses the many of the more
traditional computer modeling software packages such as
SCS TR20, HEC-1, ILLUDRAIN and HEC-2, and also has taken
the time to become fluent in some of the latest in hydrologic
and hydraulic software such as Hydraflow for Hydragraphs,
and HEC-RAS. In addition to these software packages, RHA&A
has added Visual SWMM to the list of software capabilities.
Visual SWMM is one of the most advanced and comprehensive
modeling packages available. It combines complex hydrology,
hydraulics and water quality analysis capabilities with
a single, powerful, graphical user interface. This allows
RHA&A to accurately evaluate the most complex storm water
problems presented by clients in an efficient, cost-effective
manner. RHA&A is committed to keeping up to date with
the latest in computer software as well as providing its
employees with the opportunity to attend professional
development seminars to learn the latest in analytical/design
techniques and software.

Robert H. Anderson and Associates,
Inc. maintains a minimum of two full-time survey crews
for topographic survey and construction layout. While
other firms have chosen to out-source these services,
we have elected to continue providing them to our clients.
It is our philosophy that the project as a whole will
be better organized and more efficiently executed with
the continuity afforded by utilizing our own staff for
these services.
Our survey crews provide topographic information from
the site by collecting data through an electronic GPS
system and Total Stations. The data is downloaded directly
into the CADD system, and the topographic information
is then available to the project design team.
Once the design is completed, the construction staking
coordinates are uploaded into the data collectors and
given to the survey crews for layout. This system gives
our survey crews the advantage of speed and accuracy,
which few other firms possess.
Integrating our field services with the design team through
the use of software has given RHA&A a distinct competitive
advantage, allowing us to provide our clients with comprehensive
plans in the shortest amount of time.
